Galactorrhea is a non-lactational milk discharge from nipples unrelated to the usual milk production during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
Various hormones such as prolactin, estrogens, thyrotropin-releasing hormone (TRH) can affect the production of milk. Often, it results from increased levels of prolactin – the main milk production hormone.
It usually happens in women, but it can happen in men and babies too.
