The urethra is the lower-most part of the urinary tract through which urine is passed out from the urinary bladder.
Urethral obstruction or stricture is the constriction in the urethra, which hampers the flow of urine causing symptoms during urination.
It is the difficulty in passing urine and even pain in the process, due to the narrowing of the urethra. So, when the urethra becomes too narrow, it restricts the flow of urine and does not allow the bladder to empty urine completely. This makes a person feel the frequent need to pass the urine.
Ureteral obstruction can lead to recurrent urinary tract infections and kidney damage, which can be irreversible!

COMMON CAUSES
- Urethral Stricture can be congenital or acquired.

- STDs (sexually transmitted diseases) are the major causes for urethral stricture.
- An infection (e.g., gonorrhoea) or inflammation of urethra.
- After an operation of the prostate or penis.
- After tuberculosis.
- Intermittent or long-term use of a tube inserted through the urethra to drain the bladder (catheter), Or due to a catheter lying inside the urethra.
- An enlarged prostate or previous surgery to remove or reduce an enlarged prostate gland.
- Radiation therapy

- A diminished force of urine stream
- Urine passing out in drops.
- Inability to completely empty bladder and the patient has to strain.
- Passing of flakes in the urine, along with a discharge which is mostly in the morning.
- Difficulty and pain in passing urine due to a narrow opening of the urethra.
- The stream of urine gradually becomes weaker, feeble and considerable time is needed to complete urination.
- Because of incomplete emptying of bladder, person complaints of increased frequency of urination both in the day and at night
