Medial epicondylitis or Golfer’s elbow is a painful condition where the tendons of forearm muscles attach to the bony bump on the inside of your elbow.

It is a condition affecting the inner aspect of the upper forearm/elbow.

Common Symptoms

  • The pain can come on suddenly or gradually.

Possible Causes & Risk Factors

  • Microscopic tears, inflammation and weakness in the muscle or tendon which flexes your wrist where it attaches onto the elbow joint.
  • Damage to the muscles and tendons that control your wrist and fingers.
  • It is often exacerbated by gripping / squeezing or performing repetitive wrist movements, typically related to excess or repeated stress — especially forceful wrist and finger motions.
  • Improper throwing or hitting in certain games.
  • Little warm-up before an exercise.
  • Improper playing technique, especially the backhand, can cause injury to the tendon.
  • Excessive use of topspin or a racket that’s too small or heavy.
  • Lifting weights using improper technique.
  • Forceful, repetitive occupational movements such as in construction, plumbing and carpentry workers.

  • Age 30 – 50 or older
  • More common in females than males.
  • Smoker
  • Being overweight.
  • Performing repetitive activity at least two hours a day
