Improper function of stomach or discomfort in your upper abdomen is known as dyspepsia / indigestion – a common condition. It can happen when your body has trouble digesting food.
Dyspepsia is a general term that includes a variety of digestive problems such as stomach discomfort, gas, bloating, belching, appetite loss and nausea etc.

DIETARY MANAGEMENT – Do’s & Dont’s
- Treat the root cause(s).
- Maintain personal hygiene wash your hand before eating and after using the bathroom.
- Avoid over eating. Take small meals instead of a single time large meal.
- Avoid fatty food during an acute attack of dyspepsia i.e. avoid animal products and dairy products.
- Take plenty of fluids.
- Take a diet of fresh vegetables, salad and fruits.
- Avoid taking those drugs which give rise to the problem.
- Avoid stress. Yoga and meditation help in relieving stress.
- Regular exercise will help to maintain good health – do not exercise, bend, stoop / sleep immediately after meals.
- Take a light diet consisting of porridge, rice, lentils or have boiled green grams.
- Add curd or butter milk to your meals, that helps in digestion.
- Avoid hot, spicy foods.
- Eat blend and boiled food that is easy to digest.
- Cut down on tea, coffee, cola, smoking or alcohol.
- Prop your head and shoulders up in bed – this can stop stomach acid coming up while you sleep.
- Lose weight if you’re overweight.
- Eat at least 3 to 4 hours before going to bed.
- Relax – specially before eating.
- Eat with mindfulness – savour and be grateful with each bite.
- Eat slowly and chew each bite thoroughly- remember that digestion begins in the mouth and that your stomach doesn’t have teeth.
- Favor enzyme rich foods, including papayas, mangoes, sweet potatoes, yams, figs, brown rice, oats, pearl barley, daikon radish, apples, parsley, coriander, mint, dill, rosemary, ginger, bay leaf, fennel, dill, oregano, cilantro, sage, and anise.
- Use fresh fruits like grapes, oranges, pineapples, melons, apples, pomegranate, and pears in different forms.
- Lightly cooked vegetables, buttermilk, yoghurt, cottage cheese, garlic, and ginger are some of the best remedies.
