Common signs & symptoms:
- Sudden pain in the lower right abdomen – begins around the belly button and then moves – pain typically increases and eventually becomes serious.
- In pregnancy, the pain may seem to come from the upper abdomen because the appendix is higher during pregnancy.
- Pain that worsens with coughing, walking or making other jarring movements.
- Inflammation and tenderness
- Nausea and vomiting.
- Loss of appetite.
- Low-grade fever that may rise as the illness worsens.
- Constipation or diarrhoea.
- Abdominal bloating / gas.
Possible Causes
- A blockage in the lining of the appendix
- Food waste, worms, trauma, tumour or the hard piece of stool can block the opening of the appendix.
- This blockage can cause an infection.
- If not treated right away, the appendix can break open.
- Enlarge lymphoid follicles.

- Perforation and subsequent abscess formation
