A tendon is a cord of strong, flexible tissue, like a rope. Tendons connect muscles to bones or other structures, allowing for movement – bending, stretching and twisting.
Tendinitis is an inflammatory condition of tendons is usually due to an injury, over-stressing, overuse or repetitive movements.
The patellar tendon connects muscles at the front of your thigh to extend your knee so that you can kick, run and jump.
Patellar tendinitis, also known as jumper’s knee, is an overuse injury of the tendon that help straighten the knee.
The condition is most common in players or athletes whose sports involve frequent jumping — such as basketball and volleyball.
But it is also found in people who don’t participate in jumping sports, as it can develop over time without a specific injury.
Common Symptoms

- The pain may interfere with daily movements such as climbing stairs or rising from a chair.
- Pain gets worse while bending, straightening the leg, or standing
- Pain when jumping, running, or even walking.
- Swelling or redness about the joint
