Pores are tiny holes in our skin that allow sweat and oil to reach the surface of the glands underneath.
Each pore on the skin contains a hair follicle. The hair grows from the bottom of these pores. If top of these pores become blocked due to debris or too much sebum – it swells and the hair can’t make its way out, resulting in an ingrown hair.
Ingrown hair also occurs when a hair that’s been removed starts to grow back and curves into the skin.
An ingrown hair can cause tiny, swollen bump or cyst that extends from your body’s surface into deep underneath on the skin.
It often looks like a red pimple with one hair on its surface, but there are of many other types that can look different.
A curved hair follicle, which produces tightly curled hair, is believed to encourage the hair to re-enter the skin once the hair is cut and starts to grow back.
