Tinea Corporis – Ringworm on the body is caused by fungal infection, in the form of ring-shaped or circular shaped lesions.
Ringworm gets its name because of its appearance. No worm is involved.
Under this infection, the skin in the middle of the rash is clear and healthy-looking.
The rash is itchy, scaly, slightly raised and blisters can appear at the edges of the lesion. In some cases, the ring-shaped lesions multiply and merge. The rings usually start small and then expand outward.
Tinea corporis spreads through contact with an infected person or pet animal. Sharing objects like clothing or bed sheets can also spread the infection.
Signs and symptoms of ringworm may include:
- A scaly ring-shaped itchy eruption, typically on the buttocks, trunk, arms and legs
- A rash that starts as tiny red pimples that form a ring
- The ring’s edges are often red, raised, or scaly
- The rash usually appears in only a few places on the skin
- Hair loss may occur in the area affected
- Scattering bumps – the color ranges from red on white skin to reddish, purplish, brown or gray on black and brown skin
- A round, flat patch of itchy skin
- Overlapping rings

- Contagious fungal infection caused by mold-like parasites that live on the cells in the outer layer of your skin.
- It can spread while petting or grooming dogs or cats, also common in cows.
- Living in a warm climate
- Share clothing, bedding or towels with someone who has a fungal infection
- Participate in sports that feature skin-to-skin contact, such as wrestling
- Wear tight or restrictive clothing
- Have a weak immune system
