Enterobiasis or Pinworm infection is one of the most common types of intestinal worm infections, that is highly contagious and occurs most often in children.
Female pinworms move into the colon (intestines) and exit the body through the anus at night. They lay eggs in the folds of skin around the anus. These eggs often cause itching and irritation.
In rare cases, the parasite can travel around female genitals, from the anal area up the vagina to the uterus, fallopian tubes and around the pelvic organs, that may lead to issues as inflammation of the vagina, inflammation of the inner lining of the uterus (endometritis), recurrent urinary tract infections or severe abdominal pains.
